To further strengthen the organizational construction of the Student Union, give full play to its role in students' self-management, and enhance the sense of responsibility and dedication of its members, the 9th Student Congress of the Higher Vocational and Technical College (HVTC) of Shanghai University of Engineering Science was grandly held in Conference Room 502 of the Teaching Building at the Hongkou Campus on the afternoon of January 5, 2026. Xu Weiwen, Chief of the Student Affairs Section of HVTC, attended and addressed the conference. Also present were Zhao Mengmeng, Deputy Chief of the Student Affairs Section, Wang Xianghan, Teacher of the Student Affairs Section, Zhu Shengyang, Member of the Presidium of the University Student Union, as well as 40 official representatives who undertook the trust of 933 young students of the college. The conference was hosted by student Wang Liyi.
Amid the solemn national anthem, the 9th Student Congress of HVTC officially kicked off. On behalf of the Party Committee of the college, Xu Weiwen delivered a speech, extending warm congratulations on the successful opening of the congress.
Teacher Xu reviewed the achievements of the previous Student Union in organizing various activities and creating a sound campus atmosphere under the leadership of the college Party Committee and the guidance of the Youth League Committee. He encouraged young students from four aspects: upholding ideals and beliefs, cherishing gratitude and dedication, daring to innovate and practice, and strengthening self-construction. Meanwhile, he expressed the expectation that the new Student Union would inherit fine traditions, earnestly perform its functions, safeguard students' rights and interests, meet students' needs, and contribute more wisdom and strength to the construction and development of HVTC.
At the conference, Zhu Shengyang, Member of the Presidium of the University Student Union, emphasized the responsibility of young people in the context of the times. He reviewed the achievements of the HVTC Student Union in the past year in ideological guidance, mechanism optimization, serving students, and enriching campus culture. Subsequently, he put forward hopes for its future work from three aspects: consolidating the ideological foundation, deepening the connotation of service, and strengthening the organizational foundation.
Jin Feifei, Executive Chairman of the 8th Student Union of HVTC, delivered a work report themed "Shoulder Missions Courageously, Act with Diligence and Pragmatism, and Empower Students' Growth with High-Quality Student Union Work". The report reviewed the highlights of the HVTC Student Union over the past year in ideological guidance, organizational reform, rights protection practice, and activity organization, and put forward reflections on the work of the Student Union and suggestions for future work.
Subsequently, each delegation held group discussions. After the group discussions, the congress deliberated and adopted the "Proposal Work Report of the 9th Student Congress of the Higher Vocational and Technical College of Shanghai University of Engineering Science" and the Resolution on the Work Report (Draft). It also elected members of the Presidium and the Standing Representative Committee of the 9th Student Union of HVTC. Under the leadership of the college Party Committee and the specific guidance of the higher-level Youth League organization and the university Student Union, the Student Congress successfully completed all scheduled agendas and concluded smoothly.
After the closing ceremony, the first plenary meeting of the 9th Standing Representative Committee was held, at which the new Executive Chairman of the Student Union, Director and Deputy Director of the Standing Representative Committee were elected. At the end of the meeting, Yu Shuoqi, Member of the 7th Presidium of the college, sent a message to the new student cadres: adhere to the original aspiration and keep in mind the purpose of service; dare to take responsibility and temper practical skills; fulfill the oath with youth and sweat, and write a new chapter with struggle and endeavor!
Youth meets a prosperous era, and striving is the right time. The successful conclusion of the 9th Student Congress of HVTC has opened a new chapter for the work of the college Student Union in 2026. This congress fully demonstrated the high-spirited and forging-ahead spirit of the young students of the college, and further consolidated and clarified the fundamental purpose, functional positioning and development direction of the Student Union organization of "serving students wholeheartedly". Looking forward to the future, the new Student Union will surely take this congress as a new starting point, keep in mind the original aspiration of service, bravely shoulder the mission of the times, unite the strength of all young students of the college, work together with one heart and one mind, act with diligence and pragmatism, and write a magnificent youth chapter worthy of the times!
