Following months of thrilling competition, Shanghai's 2nd Vocational Skills Competition concluded all events this June. At this prestigious showcase representing the pinnacle of Shanghai's skilled talent, faculty and students from the Electromechanical Engineering Department of Shanghai Advanced Technical School competed with soaring morale and masterful expertise. They ultimately distinguished themselves in the fierce competition, securing an impressive tally of 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, 3 bronze medals, and 1 Excellence Award. This outstanding achievement fully demonstrates the Department's exceptional talent cultivation and the relentless pursuit of craftsmanship excellence by faculty and students.
This competition serves as a critical platform for Shanghai to identify and cultivate high-caliber technical talent, attracting elite skill professionals from across the city. The Electromechanical Engineering Department's faculty-student team prioritized this event with meticulous planning and preparation. They actively competed across an unprecedented range of disciplines: 4 WorldSkills projects—including Industrial Control and Electronic Technology—and 4 selected national events such as Photoelectric Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. Both participation scale and event coverage breadth set new departmental records.
In addition to the traditional stronghold of Industrial Control, where gold was secured as expected, the most thrilling victory came in the fiercely contested Photoelectric Information Technology (National Selection) event. Young faculty memberXue Jinhui captured the gold medal through multiple grueling rounds, drawing on his solid theoretical foundation, exceptional operational skills, and remarkable composure under pressure. This historic breakthrough for the school in this discipline not only validates our teaching excellence but also affirms the effectiveness of our hands-on training approach.Equally impressive were three department teachers—Gu Yuhui,Yuan Yaqin, and Yang Yongzhao—who balanced daily teaching responsibilities with competition training, dedicating their spare time to intensive practice and preparation. Their perseverance earned them one silver medal, one bronze medal, and one Excellence Award, showcasing the true caliber of modern electromechanical vocational educators.
This outstanding record of "two golds, three silvers, and three bronzes" crystallizes the intensive training of our faculty and students, while exemplifying the department's achievements in deepening industry-education integration, benchmarking international standards, and strengthening hands-on instruction. The department's stellar performance has earned supreme honors for the school and established a powerful role model that "skills make dreams come true" for our students. These hard-won medals vividly embody the contemporary ethos: "labor is honorable, skills are invaluable, and creation is magnificent." Building on this momentum, all faculty and students of the Electromechanical Engineering Department will continue forging ahead on the path of skill development—cultivating talent while serving our nation—contributing tremendous technical expertise to elevate Shanghai's "Intelligent Manufacturing" brand in the new era.
