The 2024 Shanghai Student Mind Sports Meet (Secondary Vocational School Group) was held in Shanghai Economic Management School from Oct. 26 to Oct. 27. 388 athletes from 30 secondary vocational schools took part in Go, Chess, Chinese Chess and Gomoku competitions. Our team finally made great achievement.
With continuous development of All-Round Education in Shanghai, Go and chess games have gained increasing popularity and attention in many vocational schools.
The Mind Sports meet this year featured the largest number of schools, participants and competition items compared to previous years. What’s more, the athletes’ skills were higher and higher. Go players of the fifth dan were no longer fewer than before, some players even had master’s skill levels. The competition this year was therefore more intense than ever.
Ms. Fan Li was in charge of our Go and Chess team. It took her almost one and a half months to arrange training and organize selection contest from which 17 students were chosen to form our school team. They participated in all the four competitions of the Mind Sports Meet.
Our students kept calm, obeyed the rules, respected their rivals and brought team spirit into full play. They overcame intense mind sport load after 7 to 9 rounds during the two days. The more they fought, the braver they were. And finally they gave an excellent performance and achieved brilliant results.
Our students tempered the will, enhanced the ability, and made big breakthroughs in the competitions. Their achievements are as follows. Yang Xinle became the champion of Women’s Go item; Shu Youchen got the sixth place of Men’s Individual Go Item; and the team formed by Yang Xinle, Shu Youchen, Liu Pinxiang and Min Wuyou won the third prize of Mixed team Go item.
Zhao Yumeng got the eighth place of Women’s International Chess Item. The team composed of Zhao Yumeng, Wu Yiyang, Mei Hong, and Ton Xuanwen won the third prize in Mixed Team Chess Item. Zhang Yuanyi, Xie Jinhao, Chen Zhenyu, Gu Yize and Wang Qihang who formed the Gomoku team won the sixth place in the Mixed Team Item.
With the help and support of our school and department, Go and Chess Team of our school led by Ms. Fan has won 17 first prizes in various competitions over the past decade since 2015. The team and their performance played an important role in cultivating all-around highly-skilled talents. The Go and Chess Team will keep practicing and improve competitive level, aiming at greater achievements in the future competitions.
